Linking to a master document

Linking to a master document can be useful when you import a new document into a project folder from outside the vault. That is, it should become a project copy of a master document that resides in the vault ,but it was not copied from the master document using a Meridian command. Linking the new project copy will create a reference to the master document that you select and will create a revision of the master document when the linked copy is released.

To link an imported document to a master document:

  1. Select the master document to which you want to link to the imported document, then select the imported document second. In Web Access, select only the imported document.
  2. From the Document menu, point to Master/Project Copy, and select Link to Master Document. In Web Access, a document search page appears that you can use to find the master document. Then select the master document and click Link to Master Document.

The imported document is made a project copy of the selected master document. On the Document page of both documents, the reference icon appears next to the document name (if it did not already) and the project copy status icon appears next to the label Workflow. The new reference can be viewed as described in Showing project copies.
